Things are finally winding down for me. It’s been a busy few months… with multiple trips to the hospital with my parents, moving them to individual care-homes, clearing out their house, moving myself, holding an estate sale and the passing of my dad.
This weekend is kind of the finale… we are hosting a memorial celebration for my dad. Although we all need closure, this event is really for my mom. I know she will benefit from being surrounded by old friends and family.
After the dust settles, I still have lots of loose ends to tie up; VA benefits for my mom, insurance, IRS, Social Security, etc. I hope to wrap up own worker’s comp claim and my divorce in the next couple of months so I can get on with my life.
I plan to renovate my folks’ house in anticipation of selling when the market turns around. It’s a lot of work but I think it’s worth the effort. I know that hardly sounds like ‘winding down’ but I will be able to work at my own pace, which makes a huge difference.
It will also allow me time to start a new venture, Professional Organizing and Estate Clearing. I’ve learned a lot from this experience and think I could do the same for other families.
Most of all, I can finally unpack and get settled into my family home for a while. I have not had a space of my own for a very long time, so it will be nice to have a place to call home. I’ll be honest, I never expected to be back in my childhood home, but home is wherever your hat, or in my case, my kitty ears.
